1.a series of 表示“一系列的,一連串的;一套(叢書,郵票等)”。如:

*series 是一個單復數相同的名詞, “a series of +名詞”作主語時,謂語要用單數形式,若“two series of+名詞”做主語,謂語用復數形式。

⑵表達現在不可能實現的愿望,謂語動詞用一般過去時。
If only I could swim! 我要是會游泳該多好啊!
⑶表達將來難以實現的愿望,謂語動詞用would/could+動詞原形或一般過去時。
If only she would help me! 要是他能幫我就好了!
[注]if only除以上用法外,它還相當于if,引導條件狀語從句。

辨析:if only 與 only if
if only多用語虛擬語氣;only if 多用語稱述語氣,only修飾if, 表示唯一的條件。
