1.But we need some more. 不過我們需要更多些(肉)。
some more更多些。如:I bought some fish this morning, but that's not enough. We need some more. 我今天早晨買了些魚,但那還不夠,我們需要更多一些。
Would you like some more beer? 你想再來點啤酒嗎?
2.I can't remember.我記不得了。(指記不起把桔子放在哪兒了。)remember記得,想起,是一個及物動詞。但在這類用法中,可以不用賓語it。如:
Jim: Sorry, Mr Wu. I was not here yesterday.
對不起,吳老師,我昨天沒在這兒。
Mr Wu: Yes, I remember.是的,我記起來了。
類似的用法還存在于I know, I think, I guess等表達方式中。如:
A: It's late.不早了。
B:I know.我知道。
3.That's much too dear.那太貴了。
much可用在too前來加強語氣。又如:
She is much too old.她年紀太大了。
He is much too kind to me.他對我實在太好了。
It's much too cold.天氣實在太冷了。
但注意much too和too much的區別。too much用在不可數名詞前或用作副詞和代詞(后面不跟名詞)。如:
I had too much rice last night.昨晚我米飯吃得太多了。
Eating too much meat is not good for your health.
肉吃得太多對健康不好。
4.The Turners are going on a train.特納一家人坐火車旅行。
Turner's family或The Turner family也都指特納一家人。
5.I'm coming back in a minute.過一會兒我就回來。
在英語中,有些動詞的現在進行時可表示“將來”的意思。如本單元中的Uncle Wang is coming to supper. (王叔叔要來吃晚飯。)類似的動詞還有:
Mr Green is flying to England next Wednesday.
格林先生下禮拜三飛往英國。
They are going to the shops.他們打算去商店。
We are seeing a film this evening.我們今晚準備去看電影。
They are leaving tomorrow.他們打算明天走。
in a minute一會兒后,過一會兒
He is leaving in a minute.他過一會兒就走。
6.Let me pick it up for you.讓我把它給你拾起來。
pick摘;挑選。pick…up拾起;拿起。如:
The chldren are picking apples now.孩子們現在正在摘蘋果。
Please pick up all these pieces of paper.請拾起所有這些紙片。
She picked up the ruler and gave it to Mr Wu.
她把尺子拾起來給了吳老師。
如果賓語是代詞it或them,要把它放在pick up之間。

Lesson 54
Note: This lesson revises Why-questions in the past tense and the answers, and some opposite odjectives.
Step 1 Revision
1 Revise the irregular verbs learnt for homework by playing the game in Lesson 53,Step 1 of the TB.
2 Ask the Ss to show their homework(Wb Lesson 53, Ex.4)to a partner. Ask the Ss What did you do last week? What did he/ she/your partner do last week? etc.
Step 2 Presentation
Draw two faces on the Bb, like this:
Point to the first picture. Say This is Bill. He is happy because he has a big cake. Why is he happy? Help the Ss to answer Because he has a big cake.
Point to the second picture. say This is Mary. She is sad because she is very hungry. Why is she sad? Help the Ss to answer Because she is very hungry. Ask randomly: Why is Bill happy? Why is Mary sad?
Draw two more faces, one sad and one happy, and write Yesterday under the two new pictures.
Point to the first new picture. Say Yesterday Bill was sad because he was very hungry. Why was he sad? etc.
Point to the second new picture. Say Yesterday Mary was happy because she had a big cake. Why was she happy? etc.
Ask randomly Why is Bill happy today? Why was Mary happy yesterday? Why is Mary sad today? Why was Bill sad yesterday?
Make sure the Ss use the correct tense and verb form.
Step 3 Practice
SB page 54, Part 1. Ss work in pairs, matching the questions and answers. Check the answers with the whole class.(See the answers to Wb Lesson 54,Ex.1.)
Step 4 Writing
Wb Lesson 54, Ex.1. Ss work alone, then check their answers in pairs. Finally, check the answers with the whole class.
Step 5 Practice
SB page 54, Part 2.Ss work in pairs to write down the opposites.
Check the answers. The answers are: young, small/little, outside, short, dear, open, heavy, early, empty, day, up, short.
Step 6 Listening
SB page 54, Part 3. Listening Cassette Lesson 54.

Listening text:
Yesterday was Saturday. Mr King took his family to the People's Park in the morning. They got up early and had their breakfast quickly. After that they went to the park by car.It was nine o'clock when they got there.
There were many people in the park. Lily climbed the hills in the middle of the park. Lucy flew a kite with some other children. Mr King and his wife were tired(疲勞的)after five days' work. They sat under a tall tree and had a rest. The King family had a good time all the morning.
The answers are: 1C, 2A, 3B.
Step 7 Writing
Wb Lesson 54, Ex.3. Do the first one as a model, then Ss work in pairs. Check the answers. The answers are: old; late; night; tall(er); long; near; down; inside; cheap; full.
Homework
Finish off the Workbook exercises.

Lesson 55
Note: This lesson presents a long dialogue containing various structures and verb tenses the Ss have learnt.
Step 1 Revision
1 Revise What are you going to do this evening? etc. (SB page 13, Part 2. Get the Ss to ask each other in pairs about their plans for next week.)
2 Ask What are you doing today/now? and get the Ss to ask each other in pairs.
3 Get the Ss to ask each other about what they did last week.
4 Ask randomly What are you going to do next Tuesday? What are you doing today? What did you do last Friday? etc. Then get Ss to ask the questions.
Step 2 Presentation
SB page 55, the first part of the dialogue. Speech Cassette Lesson 55. Books closed! Tell the Ss that Mr and Mrs Turner are on a train.(Write Mr and Mrs Turner on the Bb.)Ask Where is Mrs Turner's ticket? Play the tape for the Ss to find the answer.
Ask What about Mr Turner's ticket? Play the tape again. Help the Ss to answer He can't find it!
Books open! Let the Ss look at the dialogue for a moment, then play the tape again for them to listen and repeat. Let the Ss guess the meaning of conductor and thought. Then they practise the dialogue in pairs. Get some pairs to act it out.
Step 3 Presentation
Revise and practise this dialogue:
A: May I borrow your pen, please?
B: Certainly! Here you are!
A: Thank you.
Introduce this dialogue:
A: May I borrow your ruler, please?
B: Sorry, I can't find it!
A: Oh, it doesn't matter.
Go round the class and practise these dialogues.
Get the Ss to give true answers!
Step 4 Practice
Play the tape of the second part of the dialogue for the Ss to listen and repeat. Get the Ss to practise the dialogue in threes, with suitable actions, and using their books for reference only.
Explain the use of sir and madam.
Step 5 Practice
Revise locations, by placing objects around the room. Then ask Where's my book? Help the Ss to answer It's over there, behind the door! etc.
Step 6 Presentation
Play the tape of the third part of the dialogue and get the Ss to practise it in threes.
Practise the fourth part of the dialogue in the same way. Explain that Better late than never! is an English proverb: see if the Ss can think of a Chinese equivalent.
Finally, get the Ss to practise the whole dialogue in threes(one person can play both the conductor and the girl). Remind the Ss to look at the words in the book before they speak (so that they are not just reading aloud), and to perform suitable actions.
Ask the Ss to give the dialogue a title.
Step 7 Workbook
Wb Lesson 55, Exx. 1-3.
Do Exx.1 and 2 orally. Ex.2 may be done in pairs; check the answers with the whole class.
For Ex. 3, do the first two sentences as a model, then let the Ss work alone or in pairs.
Check the answers with the whole class.
The answers are: were; came; took; showed; could; thought; was; was; was; saw; asked; Is; is; picked; gave; thanked.
Do Ex. 4 if time permits.
Homework
Finish off the Workbook exercises.
Learn the verbs in Wb Ex.2.
Revise Checkpoints 8--13.

Lesson 56
Note: This lesson summarises all the English sounds and revises the months and dates.
The Workbook helps revise the expressions of position.
Step 1 Revision
1 Check the homework, especially the different verb forms.
2 Revise the story in SB page 55. Use the questions in Wb Lesson 55, Ex. 1. Ask some Ss to retell the story if you think they can.
Step 2 Phonetics
SB page 56, Part 1. Revise the English vowels and consonants, using flashcards. Speech Cassette Lesson 56. Listen and repeat, Correct Ss pronunciation.
Get the Ss to work out the words from the phonetic symbols in the right box. Do the first one as a model. Check the answers with the whole class. The answers are: than, hope, dogs, thought, March, train, birds, lesson, flower, woman, ticket, idea, enjoy, machine, driver, dumpling, parents, usually.
Step 3 Revision
Revise the months and dates (See Lesson 46, Step 4 of the TB).
Ask What's the date today/tomorrow? What was the date yesterday/last Friday? etc.
Step 4 Presentation
SB page 56, Part 2. Ask two or three questions as a model, then let the Ss ask and answer in pairs. Check the answers with the whole class.
Explain the meaning of Hands up!
Ask twelve Ss to come to the front. Get each one to ask about Ss 'birthdays in a particular month, and to write the answer on the Bb. Then the Ss can use the twelve answers to draw a diagram like the one in the SB.
Finally, ask one student to draw the diagram on the Bb.
Step 5 Checkpoint 14
Go through the grammar and“useful
expressions”in Checkpoints 8-13. Focus on any particular problems that you have noticed in your Ss' work. Ask the Ss if they have any question to be answered. Refer to the grammar summary in the Appendix of the SB.
Step 6 Workbook
Wb Lesson 56, Exx. 1-4.
Ex. 1 should be done orally in class. The answers are: ears, dress, boys, chicken, hungry, piece, fruit, third, quite, station, last, fish, strong, panda, elephant, where, sure, talk, found, tomorrow.
Ex. 2 should be done in groups of four.
Exx.3 and 4 may be done orally with the whole class.
Finally, wish the Ss Happy New Year! Enjoy your holiday! See you next term!
Homework
Write out the words in Wb Lesson 56, Ex
1. Do Ex.3 in the exercise books.
Revise the 14 units, making full use of the Appendix of the SB.
