△when并列連詞,連接兩個分句,意為“就在那時(and then/and at that time)”,后面的分句通常表示一件意想不到的事情。主要用于以下句型:
1)be about to do sth.when…
He was about to tell me the secret when she came back.他剛要告訴我這個秘密,這時她回來了。
注意:上句也變為:
He was on the point of telling me the secret when she came back.
2)be doing sth.when…
I was wandering in the street when I heard a call from behind.我正在街上徘徊,突然聽到后面有人喊我。
3)had done sth.when…

1)sound n. 意為“聲音”,指可以聽到的各種聲音。

3.suggest
1)vt. 意為“建議”,后接n./pron./doing.如:

注意:表示“向某人建議某事”用suggest sth to sb,而不用suggest sb.sth,類似的表達還有:
explain/announce/report sth.to sb.
2)接that-clause,用虛擬語氣(should do)如:
She suggested that the meeting (should) be put off until Friday.她建議會議延至周五。
注意:suggest表示“暗示、說明”時,不用虛擬語氣。如:

3)It's suggested that-clause中,用虛擬語氣。如:

4)suggestion后面的表語從句或同位語從句中,也用虛擬語氣。如:

4.for one thing…,for another…(或for one thing…,also…)
△意為“一則……;再則……”,常用來列舉理由。如:
She's fit for the job. For one thing, she dances; for another, she is fond of singing.她適合這項工作。一則她會跳舞,再則她喜歡唱歌。
I won't go shopping today. For one thing, I have no money. Also I have no time.我今天不去買東西。一則沒錢,再則無時間。
5.in order to與so as to
1)前者后者都后接不定式,意義一樣,常可換用,但用于句首時只能用in order to。如:
In order to catch up with the advanced countries, we Chinese people are developing our economics.為了趕上發達國家,我們中國人民正在發展經濟。
He got up early in order to(=so as to) catch the bus.為了趕上公共汽車,他起得很早。
2)in order to和so as to的否定形式是在to前加not。
Mary ate up hurriedly so as not to be late for school.瑪麗匆忙吃了幾口,為的是上學不遲到。
注:in order to或so as to后不接從句,此時應當用in order that或so that。
