Step2. Speaking.
1. Listen to the tape carefully and then practise the dialogue with your partner and try to act them out.
Ask several groups to act out the dialogues.
2. After the performance, ask the students to complete the sentences below.
3. We have just acted out two dialogues, now please make some other dialogues, using the situations similar to the ones above. I’ll ask some students to act them out in three minutes. Three students a group.

1) Could you speak a bit slowly, please?

He didn’t eat a little. 他吃了很多。
You know a little French, don’t you? 你懂點法語,是嗎?
This will give us a bit of time. 這會給我們一點時間。

1. Listening.
1) Lead-in
Terry is from the USA and she is visiting England. Listen to the dialogue between David and Terry. Terry talks about some of the differences between USA and England.
2) Do exercise 1,2.3.
3) Useful phrases:
have difficulty understanding sth; sometimes, some times, sometime, some time; use sth in a different way; touch sb on the arm, pat sb on the shoulder, hit sb in the face, take sb by the arm; the other day; part of being friends with…
2. Talking.

Step 2. Lead-in
Warming up by asking some questions.
1) What language has the largest number of speakers
2) What language is the most widely used language in the world?
3) Do you like English and explain why (not)?
4) In what situations do you use English?
S: I’m learning English. I can speak English very well. I’ll speak English in everyday life and use it as much as I can. As long as the person I speak to understand English, I’ll talk to him or her in English. I think it a good way to practise my English. At the same time, his or her English can be improved, too. In a word, I will try my best to use English.

Open your books at Page10, read the text fast and think about the three questions:
1) How many countries are there where the majority of the people speak English?
2) In which countries do we find most native speakers of English?
3) How is English used in countries such as India Pakistan, Nigeria and the Philippines?
